Shared Paths Survey

Canberrans make great use of our city’s wide network of shared paths. We want to hear from you about how you use these paths, and what can be done to improve them.

Street Sweeping and Fallen Leaves

We live in a great city and one of the best things about Canberra is how green we are. There is no doubt that we all love having lots of trees in our suburbs and in our neighbourhoods. However, with trees come falling leaves, particularly during the autumn and winter months.

Falling leaves which are not swept up regularly not only cause a trip hazard on our footpaths and roads impacting on the safety of pedestrians (especially older Canberrans and residents with children or pets) but also make their way into our waterways, causing a build-up of material which can lead to excess blue/green algae in our lakes.

The Canberra Liberals want to hear from you about the current arrangements for street sweeping in your neighbourhood.

As the law currently stands, landlords who have tenants that have not paid rent are required to apply to ACAT to have them evicted. ACAT can choose not to evict a tenant if they reasonably believe that the tenant will pay the rent as it becomes due. In this case, ACAT can order a conditional termination and possession order, which means that if the tenant fails to pay rent in the future the landlord automatically has the right to evict the tenant.

The proposed changes will mean that a landlord is still required to apply to ACAT to have a tenant evicted, but rather than order an eviction, ACAT will make a payment order requiring the tenant to pay what is due. Should the tenant fail to pay this, the landlord can apply again to ACAT within 60 days for an eviction. At this point, ACAT can either; order an eviction, confirm the payment order or make another payment order.

William Hovell Drive Duplication

William Hovell Drive is a car park for Canberra’s morning commuters. For too long, West Belconnen residents have had to put up with long traffic queues and delays on this road, while ACT Labor ignores the problem.

Sign the petition below to call on the government to duplicate William Hovell Drive between Coppins Crossing Road and Drake Brockman Drive.

Additional Questions

ACT Public Hospital Experience

The ACT Government spends more money on public hospitals per person than any other jurisdiction but the number of patients receiving access to services is lagging.

The Canberra Liberals believe effective and reliable health services are a basic function of government.

Lawson Parking

Lawson is one of the fastest growing suburbs in Canberra, yet the availability of street parking isn’t up to scratch. This makes it hard to find parking spots and easy to be issued fines.

While the Government has neglected the problem, we are fighting to ensure that Lawson finally gets adequate areas for parking.

Please complete the petition to fix parking in Lawson.

Additional Questions

Palmerston Parking

There isn’t enough parking in Palmerston. Rather than investing in more parking, the ACT Labor Government has responded by issuing fines and sending out mobile enforcement vans. This is not good enough.

For the rates, taxes, fees and charges Canberrans pay, the last thing residents deserve is punitive fines from a Government that has stopped listening. To fix this problem, we need to hear from you. Let us know how to improve parking and traffic flow in Palmerston.

Plans to redevelop Gold Creek Golf Course

The Canberra Liberals want to hear your thoughts on the proposed changes to the Gold Creek golf course.

The owners of the Gold Creek golf course are currently developing plans as part of the ‘re:imagine Gold Creek’ project. The changes include reducing the size of the golf course which may affect many residents in the area.

The Canberra Liberals are concerned about the proposal and believe the golf course is vitally important to the fabric of the local community.

More information on the proposal can be found in this Canberra Times article.

We encourage you to tell us your thoughts here and make a submission through the ‘re:imagine’ Gold Creek website.
